The „Buddha Project“

When, in August 2011, the class 13b decided to read Hanid Kureishi’s novel “The Buddha of Suburbia”, we soon noticed that there was hardly any material or aid for the pupils to be found on the internet. Thus the idea was born to provide some help for future generations of pupils.

The class then divided into different groups each working on different subjects/topics that came up in the novel. For several weeks the pupils researched on the internet, in magazines, newspapers, books etc. to work on their particular topic.

Then – work was interrupted by the written A-level exams for a couple of weeks – their findings were brought together and the result is now to be found on this homepage. Neither the pupils nor I, the teacher, claim that the findings are complete and the only correct ones. None of us is a critic of literature.

For all of us it was a new experience to work on a novel as we did and then to publish the results of our work. If there are any mistakes or misunderstandings, we do apologize! Still we hope that our work might be of some help to future generation of pupils who might want or have to read “The Buddha of Suburbia”.

I would like to thank my pupils for the hard work they put into this project and that they showed me that it is certainly possible that the teacher can leave his/her traditional role and become a “learning partner” – who sometimes knew less than her pupils. In this sense a special thanks to Sina, Gesche, Lennart, Jan, Christian and Thore who made it possible that this project is now to be found on our homepage. Without their technical knowledge this would not have been possible.

Tag der Toleranz

Der "Tag der Toleranz" wurde im Rahmen des Victor-Klemperer-Wettbewerbes 2008 von Schülern der UIIa konzepiert und im Februar dieses Jahres der 9. Klassenstufe vorgestellt. Eine eigens entwickelte Internetseite repräsentierte das Projekt als Beitrag für den Wettbewerb und ist nun online verfügbar.

Der Höhepunkt des Tages ist ein Theaterstück, das von einem schlimmen Mobbingvorfall handelt. Neben einer interessanten und lehrreichen Podiumsdiskussion zum Thema 'Toleranz gegenüber anderen' werden an mehreren Stationen Beiträge vorgestellt, die dazu aufrufen, sich mit der Toleranz auseinanderzusetzen.

Curios of Maths

Der Mathe Leistungskurs der Jahrgangsstufe 12 (2007/08) präsentiert auf der folgenden Homepage die Ergebnisse seines "Curios of Maths"-Projektes. Innerhalb dessen haben sich die Schüler in kleinen Gruppen mit verschiedenen Themen beschäftigt, von der Chaostheorie und Fraktalen über das MIU System, der Fuzzy-Logic sowie Kaleidozyklen, dem „bucky ball“ und dem Rhombenkuboktaeder bis hin zu den Bildern und Konstruktionen von M.C. Escher. Daneben wurde auch das Phänomen um Fermats letzten Satz beleuchtet.

Energie

Die 11b (2009/10) hat sich mit ihrem Erdkunde Lehrer Herrn Anthes mit dem Thema Energie befasst. Erstellte Plakate wurden in der Eingangshalle ausgestellt. Interessierte Klassen konnten diese "Ausstellung" besuchen und wurden von Schülerinnen und Schülern der 11b informiert.
